One of the first things that you need to decide when you’re planning a visit to the Walt Disney World Resort is where to stay. With close to 30 different resorts to choose from, it may feel a little overwhelming to choose! This is your Walt Disney World Resort Hotel guide, designed to help you find the resort hotel that works best for your Walt Disney World Resort vacation. In this article, we take a closer look at each resort hotel to help you decide.
Why Stay at a Disney Resort?
Staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel is still the best way to experience the theme parks and everything that the Walt Disney World Resort has to offer. Guests staying onsite can enjoy earlier access to the theme parks and use Disney transportation to get around the resort.
If you stay in a deluxe or deluxe villa resort, you can also take advantage of Extended Evening Hours, where the park stays open two hours later for guests staying at one of these resorts.
Aside from the convenience, there is still something magical about staying at one of these hotels. You go into the “Disney Bubble” and you don’t have to leave until your vacation ends. There are so many resorts to choose from and there are choices for every budget and taste. Let’s take a closer look!
Deluxe & Deluxe Villa Resorts
The deluxe resort category at the Walt Disney World Resort includes eight different hotels. These resort hotels include more amenities and overall, closer proximity to the parks compared to the moderate and value resorts. Each of these hotels includes amazing pools and delicious restaurants, including signature dining experiences.
The deluxe villa resort category includes eleven different options. These properties are part of the Disney Vacation Club and include studio, 1-, 2-, or 3-bedroom grand villas. Several of these properties are located near a deluxe resort and may share amenities.
Both deluxe and deluxe villas offer at least two methods of transportation to the parks, such as boats, the monorail, or resort buses. The only exception to this is the Animal Kingdom Lodge and Villas.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge
Why We Love It:
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is a unique resort hotel. When you enter the hotel, it’s like visiting an African wildlife reserve. There are a variety of birds and animals, over 200 different species, who make this resort their home. With four different savannas, there are plenty of opportunities to see the animals too with public viewing areas. There are even rooms that offer a savanna view.
This Resort is Great For:
If you are looking to have some downtime during your visit to the Walt Disney World Resort, this is a great choice. Like all the Disney resort hotels, there is always plenty to do. This hotel is also great for anyone who loves animals. It would be a good fit for a honeymoon or an adults-only trip too. Although the resort is farther away from the theme parks compared to some of the other deluxe resorts, the experience, and unique theme make up for that.
Things to Consider:
Bus transportation is the only way to get to the theme parks. This may be a downside if you are traveling with young children or want to be able to walk to the theme parks. The resort may also seem a bit further from most of the theme parks so if being close to the parks is very important, this may not be a good fit.

Disney’s Beach Club Resort
Why We Love It:
At Disney’s Beach Club Resort, you can enjoy a charming atmosphere that will remind you of a New England-style resort hotel. Located along the shores of Crescent Lake, this deluxe resort hotel has so much to offer – from spacious guest rooms to a stellar location and amazing pool! There are great restaurants including the beloved Beaches & Cream Soda Shop, easy access to the theme parks, and the best pool on Disney property! It’s a good option if you have small children or if you want a great pool to enjoy. This is also the perfect choice if you love EPCOT since you can walk to the International Gateway!
Things to Consider:
This resort hotel shares many amenities with its sister resort, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort. This means that sometimes there are shared buses as well. Most of the guest rooms here sleep up to 5 guests so if you have a large travel party, you may need two rooms or consider a villa.

Disney’s Contemporary Resort is one of the original hotels at the Walt Disney World Resort. Known for its iconic architecture, history, and perfect location, this resort is very popular. It’s a short walk to the Magic Kingdom and offers two different transportation options to the parks including the monorail, which goes right through the resort.
This Resort is Great For:
The proximity to the Magic Kingdom makes this a great choice for families with young children. The newly refurbished rooms, with an Incredibles theme, are stunning and sure to be a hit with kids! Since there is a convention center right on-site, this hotel is popular for conferences and meetings as well. It would be great for an adults-only trip too. The dining options are also on point, with choices for the whole family including Chef Mickey’s, Steakhouse 71, and the California Grill.
Things to Consider:
This resort has what some may call a “sterile” theme. It was designed to have a contemporary feel and is filled with Disney history. Although the pool area includes a waterslide and water play area, there are better pools at other Disney hotels.

This resort is very close to the Magic Kingdom but is not considered a monorail resort. Boat transportation is available to the Magic Kingdom but buses are available to take guests to the other theme parks.
