Tips for Planning the Perfect Disney Honeymoon

by Mar 6, 2018

Your honeymoon is one of the most important aspects of your wedding, and it shouldn’t be an afterthought. It’s extremely important that you choose a place that interests you and your partner. For my husband, Adam, and I that was a pretty easy decision. When we were dating, our first big trip together was a two day trip to the Walt Disney World® Resort in Orlando, and so we decided to adventure there together for our honeymoon.

Here are some tips that we used to help us plan the perfect honeymoon at the Walt Disney World® Resort.

Consider your budget, and what’s most important to you

There are limitless options of things to do at Walt Disney World®. From fine dining to deluxe resorts—determine the things that are most important to you, and choose to splurge on those experiences.

Adam and I stayed at a moderate resort instead of a deluxe resort because we prioritized dining and a longer vacation. By staying in a less expensive resort, we were able to afford a ten-day Magic Your Way Package Plus Deluxe Dining.

Splurge on a special tour

Because Adam and I had both been to the parks before, we wanted to make special memories that were new to both of us. Many tours accommodate children, but most of them are catered towards an adult audience. The Behind the Seeds tour at Epcot® was interesting and inexpensive. Other more expensive tours include the Wild Africa Trek at Disney’s Animal Kingdom ® Theme Park, and the Epcot® Seas Adventure – Aqua Tour. All of these experiences are once in a lifetime, and there’s no better person to share them with than your new partner.

Give yourself plenty of time

I am not the type of person who generally favors a relaxed itinerary on vacations, but my honeymoon was the exception. When planning Disney FastPass+ selections and dining, give yourself plenty of time to travel between locations, sleep and spend time with your significant other.

We are not morning people, so we didn’t plan anything before noon during our trip. We also made good use of the resort’s hot tub, swimming pool and walking trails. I also suggest taking Walt Disney World®, boat transportation to and from one of the resorts on the Seven Seas Lagoon and Magic Kingdom® Park. The ride is relaxing and romantic — especially at night.

Take advantage of Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings Honeymoon Registry

Using the easy to use the registry, your friends and family can go online and give you gifts towards special tours, dining experiences, floral and gift services, and many other magical extras. We experienced so many things that we could never have afforded without the help of our online honeymoon registry.

Purchase a souvenir

Before we left on our honeymoon, someone suggested that we buy a home item, like a frame or a Christmas ornament, to commemorate our honeymoon. We chose a Christmas ornament. Each year, it’s my favorite ornament to hang, because it holds so much significance for us. We take a moment to reminisce and share our love for one another.

Book through a Key to the World Travel® agent

I truly wished we’d hired someone else to help us plan our honeymoon.I thought when I got married I’d never have to buy myself flowers again, but without an agent, I did a lot of that for myself. Our family and friends gave us earmarked funds towards tours, flower arrangements and gift baskets using the Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings Honeymoon Registry. However, it is up to you to book and plan those experiences. If I’d had an agent, they could have planned out those experiences in a more magical and surprising way. Additionally, with all the tours and experiences, keeping track of our itinerary and confirmation numbers became complicated and sometimes confusing.

Also, paying for your honeymoon is not exactly romantic. Coordinating with family members, who may be helping you pay for the honeymoon as a gift, may feel awkward and uncomfortable. Using a Key to the World Travel® planner can help alleviate some of that awkwardness, and help you think less about the finances and more about the magic of your special trip.

See a dinner show, or splurge on a fancy meal

There are many dinner shows and fine dining experiences at the Walt Disney World® Resort.

A personal favorite of ours was Disney’s Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show. The meal included wine and beer for those 21 and up, and all-you-care-to-eat platters of pork, ribs, chicken and vegetables.

No matter what your style, taking time to sit across from one another and enjoy quality time and food together will help bring romance and adventure to your honeymoon.

Take time for the little things

Decorate your room with a “Just Married” banner, have flowers delivered to the resort, share a couples massage at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa, write each other letters to read on the monorail, see fireworks over the castle, take a carriage ride at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort-Riverside or Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort. There are so many tiny, inexpensive ways to help make your honeymoon magical and memorable. Take some time to enjoy all those little things.

With the help of Disney, your honeymoon is sure to be a once in a lifetime experience that you and your partner will love and enjoy together.
