Reasons to Work with a Travel Advisor

by Nov 26, 2022

You are ready to plan your next vacation. You know where you want to go and are so excited to get there. However, have you thought about all of the details of the planning process? There are so many reasons to work with a travel advisor for your next trip. Let’s explore a few!

Travel Advisors Love to Travel

Yes, travel advisors love to travel. We love to plan travel and we get excited when we help our clients plan amazing vacations! We want to share our love of travel so you can experience it too! Research is part of the fun of planning a vacation. Plus, working with clients to make their vacation dreams a reality is pretty amazing too. For many of us, that love of travel is why we decided to become travel advisors. While the job is not all unicorns and rainbows, it’s rewarding to help people make memories that will last forever! Working with a travel advisor is a good way to have someone on your side that is invested in helping you have a great experience.

Travel Advisors Have Knowledge to Share

Travel advisors participate in a variety of training and visit different destinations so that we can share our knowledge with our clients. Sure, you can use Google or one of the third-party booking engines. However, you will not get the same firsthand knowledge and personalized recommendations.

We love to share our experiences while we travel. It helps YOU when we can make recommendations that are personalized to what you are looking for. A vacation is not a one-size-fits-all experience. What works for one person or family may not be ideal for another. We take that into consideration as we help you plan your vacation experience. Whether it’s restaurant recommendations, tips to make the most of your time in the theme parks, or where to go for the best beach vacation, your travel advisor has the knowledge to help.

The Services Are Included When You Book

Read that again and then we will dive into what it means. A travel advisor provides you with a service and that service is valuable. It’s no different than working with an accountant, a lawyer, a hairstylist, etc. A travel advisor’s expertise is the travel industry. However, a travel advisor is paid a commission by the supplier (the vacation destination) after the client travels. That commission is already built into the price, whether you book with the advisor or not. That means that you are paying for the service, even if you don’t use it. Why would you not take advantage of a service that is readily available to you and included with the price that you’re paying? Would you pay for valet parking and then park your own car?

Planning Travel Can Be Hard

The world changed a few years ago and the travel industry was no exception. Recently, many destinations have lifted restrictions and requirements related to Covid-19 but travel has changed. It’s more important now than ever to have a travel advisor to help you navigate these changes. Do you know what is required for different destinations? Did you know that the Disney theme parks require park pass reservations in addition to your park tickets? Do you know what international destinations require a visa? Did you know that for many international destinations, your passport has to be valid for at least 6 months past your travel dates?

There are many things that you may not necessarily think about but your travel advisor would because it’s our job to do so. We worry about the hard parts so that you don’t have to. You can enjoy your vacation!

Travel Advisors Advocate for You Throughout Your Whole Trip

There are many misconceptions about using a travel advisor. Some people seem to think that when you work with a travel advisor, you surrender all control of your vacation. That is not the case. Working with a travel advisor is a collaborative relationship. The travel advisor does not control your plans or your vacation. The goal is to work together to create the ideal vacation experience for you. How that is accomplished is truly up to you. A travel advisor can be as involved in the planning as you would like. If a problem arises during your vacation or a promotion is released after you book, the travel advisor is there to help you.

A vacation is an investment and is one of the best ways to create memories with your loved ones that last a lifetime. It’s always good to have someone in your corner to help you with all the details or any issues that may arise. Your travel advisor is the person to do that. Rest assured that third-party suppliers will not advocate for you as a travel advisor will.

You Support A Small Business

When you work with a travel advisor, you are supporting a small business. Travel advisors work hard to build their client base, often through word-of-mouth referrals. Our businesses are built from the ground up, whether you are talking about the agency owner or an individual advisor. There is a lot of work that goes into it and it takes time. We go through training and set goals and work with different suppliers to have success in the travel industry. Let’s face it, after 2020, that was no easy feat but we endured and the support of our small business is even more valuable now!
