Keys to the Magic Kingdom Fireworks

by Apr 11, 2023

One of the best ways to finish your day at the Magic Kingdom is to watch the fireworks over Cinderella Castle. You may be wondering about the best place to see the fireworks, what to expect, when to get ready, etc. This is your Magic Kingdom fireworks guide.

Here, we detail everything you need to know about the fireworks at the Magic Kingdom!

The Nighttime Shows

Happily Ever After

On April 3, 2023, a beloved nighttime show returned to the Magic Kingdom. “Happily Ever After” includes castle projections, songs from many Disney favorites, and of course, fireworks lighting the skies over Cinderella Castle. In addition, projections are now seen all the way down Main Street U.S.A. throughout the show!

Fantasy in the Sky

This show typically takes place on New Year’s Eve and the day before, twice a night.

Celebrate America!

This show is typically featured on both July 3rd and July 4th at the park.

Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Spectacular

During Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, this show takes place once each night. It replaced HalloWishes in 2019 and is hosted by Jack Skellington. He tells a story of friendship featuring Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Goofy.

Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks

This holiday show was featured at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party prior to the pandemic. It felt like it was brand-new when it was shown during the 2021 holiday season at Mickey’s Very Merriest After Hours event. Like the other shows, it includes many projections and lights on Cinderella Castle, along with some favorite holiday tunes.

Where to Watch the Show

There are several great spots to enjoy the fireworks. There are a few factors to consider as you decide where to stand.

1.) How crowded is the park?

During busier times of the year (e.g. New Year’s Eve or July 4th), there will obviously be more people waiting to watch the nighttime show. If getting the best spot is very important to you, it is important to keep this in mind and plan accordingly.

2.) How important is the best view?

The nighttime shows at the Magic Kingdom have a lot of projections. If seeing that aspect of the show is important to you, there are definitely better places to stand. Do you want the best view of Cinderella Castle and all of the fireworks? Do you just want to watch the show and you’re not as concerned about having the best view of everything?

3.) How early do you want to find the spot?

If you are visiting during a busy time, you may notice that people will line up very early, especially around the Partners Statue. Finding a spot a little earlier is advantageous if you want the best view. However, sometimes it’s possible to get a pretty good spot last minute.

The Hub

Sitting in the hub area will give you the best view of the fireworks and projections. The nighttime show features projections that include several beloved Disney characters and is certainly a highlight of the show. If seeing the projections is important to you, this is the place to be.

The caveat is that the closer to the castle you are, the harder it will be to see all the fireworks! If seeing the castle is more important to you, stand closer to the Partners Statue, right in the middle of the hub. If you would prefer to see more of the fireworks as well, stand a little further back on the street or the outskirts of the Hub against the railings toward Main Street, U.S.A.

Fireworks Dessert Party

For a special experience with a guaranteed viewing area, purchase admission to one of the dessert parties.

There are three options for the Magic Kingdom Fireworks Dessert parties. These include:

  • Magic Kingdom Fireworks Dessert Parties: Treats and Seats: This event takes place in the Tomorrowland Terrace and offers guests reserved seating for the show.
  • Magic Kingdom Fireworks Dessert Parties: Pre-Party: Guests arrive for this event prior to the nighttime show to enjoy an array of treats and an assortment of beverages. Then, guests are directed to the Plaza Garden (“Hub Grass”) for a preferred viewing and standing area.
  • Magic Kingdom Fireworks Dessert Parties: After-Party: Check in with a cast member at Tomorrowland Terrace and then head to the Plaza Garden area for your preferred viewing of the show. Then, go back to Tomorrowland Terrace after the show to enjoy some treats and drinks.

Main Street, U.S.A.

There are many great spots to view the fireworks along Main Street, U.S.A. To get a better view of the castle projections, stand closer to the castle. Near Casey’s Corner or along the sidewalk close to the “Hub Grass” are great options.

With the addition of projections down Main Street U.S.A., there’s yet another reason to find a spot here for the show!

Town Square

If you want to be further back to take in the whole show and all the fireworks, find a spot in Town Square. Standing in the center of Town Square near the flagpole is a good spot but it’s important to be close to the middle for the best view.

The one downside of standing further back is that it is harder to see the projections. However, you will have a great view of all of the fireworks!

Outside the Park

The nighttime shows at the Magic Kingdom are filled with beautiful projections on Cinderella Castle and down Main Street U.S.A. The projections definitely add something to the show and are worth seeing so if you want the whole experience, watching the show from outside the park may not be the best option. However, if you are just looking to enjoy the fireworks, there are a few good spots in the Magic Kingdom area that offer great views.

The California Grill at Disney’s Contemporary Resort

The California Grill is a signature dining experience with a great view of the nighttime show at the Magic Kingdom. Located on the top floor of the resort, the restaurant is a popular spot for a delicious meal and wonderful views of the Magic Kingdom. What better way to end your day than with an exceptional meal and a breathtaking view of the show?

Ferrytale Fireworks: A Sparkling Dessert Cruise

Climb aboard a ferry boat and sail away on the Seven Seas Lagoon as you enjoy delicious desserts and drinks, followed by incredible views of the fireworks at the Magic Kingdom. The celebration includes signature treats and specialty drinks, along with stories from the crew about the magic of the Disney ferry boats!

**Please note, this Enchanting Extra is unavailable from March 30 – July 5, 2023, due to refurbishment**

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

The beach at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is a great place to enjoy the fireworks outside of the park. This area has the music piped in and has a beautiful view of the Seven Seas Lagoon and the fireworks.

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

Enjoy a signature dining experience at Narcoossee’s Restaurant and then head outside to see the fireworks light up the skies. The music is piped into the restaurant as well for you to enjoy the view while you eat. If you time your reservation right, request a window seat to dine with the perfect view of “Happily Ever After”.

The Ticket & Transportation Center

If you drove to the park or are looking for somewhere to watch a show that is not at a resort, the Ticket and Transportation Center is another option. There’s a great view of the Magic Kingdom if you stand by the dock.

Our Favorite Tips & Tricks

  • To get the best viewing spots close to Cinderella Castle, arrive early. People often stake out the spots close to the Partners Statue well in advance of the show. However, it’s possible to get a good spot approximately 45 minutes to an hour in advance. Get a snack and relax before the show!
  • Be on the lookout for Disney PhotoPass photographers, just prior to the show! These photos make great memories with a beautiful backdrop of Cinderella Castle!
  • If you are taking photos or videos, be cognizant of other guests’ experiences and turn off your flash.
  • If you want to have a little more personal space, try standing in front of something such as a railing or trash can. This will ensure that someone does not get directly in front of you.
  • To exit the park quickly, consider standing closer to Town Square.
  • If you are not in a hurry, consider roaming through the shops, stopping to take pictures, etc. This allows some of the crowds to clear out.
