Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside: An Overview

Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside is one of the five “Moderate” hotels on Walt Disney World® property. The hotel opened in 1992 under the name “Dixie Landings” which was changed to Riverside in 2001. The resort themed around the antebellum south along the Mississippi River. Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside is very popular with families looking for a relaxing and comfortable stay at Walt Disney World®.



Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside features 2,048 rooms, and is broken up into two sections (Alligator Bayou and Magnolia Bend) over roughly 200 acres of land. There are a total of 6 pools, the main one located on Ol’ Man Island and features a 95 foot water slide, as well as an adjacent children’s Aquatic Play Area and hot tub.  Also located near this pool is the Muddy Rivers Pool Bar where you can purchase snacks and alcoholic beverages. The other 5 “quiet” pools are open 24 hours a day, and do not have lifeguards on duty. Each pool has changing rooms, as well as laundry facilities nearby.



The resort buildings in the Alligator Bayou section feature rustic cajun-style buildings, while the Magnolia Bend section features plantation-style mansions.  The grounds feature beautiful landscaping with oak and magnolia trees as well as azalea and rose bushes. This coupled with the relaxing Sassagoula River gives the resort an old south charm.



When booking a room at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside, Guests have a choice of Standard View, Garden View, River View, King Bed, and Pool View. There are also Royal Guest Rooms featuring a regal theme with touches of your favorite Disney princesses as well as special beds that have a fireworks display on the headboards!  The Standard rooms have a view of the Resort Hotel or Parking Areas, the Garden View rooms have a view of the garden areas, the River View rooms have a view of the Sassagoula River, and the Pool View rooms have a view of the courtyard pool area. Rooms are 314 square feet and feature two queen beds or one king, a pull-down child-size bed, two sinks, coffee maker, small refrigerator and a safe. Royal Guest rooms are all located in the Magnolia Bend section, and Guests can choose from a Standard, Garden, River, or Pool View room. Beginning in 2019, there will be two new categories – Standard View 5th Sleeper and Garden View 5th Sleeper. 



The main building, The Sassagoula Steamboat Co., holds the lobby/check-in desk as well as the Riverside Mill quick service dining location. You can also find Fulton’s General Store in this area. In this store, you can find souvenirs, snacks, and essentials like first aid supplies and toiletries. The resort has a fun lounge called The River Roost. This southern-style jazz lounge features appetizers, a full bar, and live music featuring a crowd favorite Yehaa Bob (Jackson).!  Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside also has a full-service restaurant, Boatwright’s that serves a cajun and southern inspired menu. Bus stops are located in multiple spots around the resort, offering a convenient place to access transportation no matter what section of the resort you are staying in. The resort also features the Sassagoula River Cruise which is a free service that ferries guests to and from Disney Springs™.



Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside is located adjacent to its sister resort Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter. It’s close proximity allows guests to enjoy the dining amenities and theming of both resorts.
