I love visiting and staying at the Deluxe Resorts while vacationing at Walt Disney World Resort®. So much in fact that my husband actually refers to me as being a bit of a snob for needing to stay at one of them. He’s not wrong! I love that the Deluxe Resorts offer not only great convenience (they are generally located quite close to at least one theme park) but the amenities that are offered within can’t be beat!
The Deluxe Resorts consist of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, Disney’s Boardwalk Inn, Disney’s Yacht Club, Disney’s Beach Club, and Disney’s Contemporary Resort. I have stayed at or visited, each of these properties with the exception of visiting Disney’s Contemporary Resort at one point or another.
While I do love the resorts located on the monorail line due to the close proximity to Magic Kingdom® Park as well as the additional dining options that are located so close by, Disney’s Contemporary Resort was just something that I never had an urge to check out. In fact, until recently, the only part of Disney’s Contemporary Resort that I had ever laid eyes on was the area that could be seen while riding the monorail. I recently had the opportunity to walk around the grounds of this resort and I have to say that this is my new favorite!
Of course, I always knew that if clients were interested in visiting Magic Kingdom® Park, Disney’s Contemporary Resort was the most convenient. There is a walking path that can be utilized to get to the theme park entrance. Upon returning to the resort, guests could utilize the monorail as the resort is the first stop. Along the same lines, traveling to Epcot® is easy. Guests switch monorail lines at the Ticket and Transportation Center which is the first stop after leaving Disney’s Contemporary Resort. There are also multiple dining options here such as:
- The Wave… of American Flavors
- California Grill
- Chef Mickey’s
- Contempo Café
- Contemporary Grounds
Chef Mickey’s is the place to be to meet the Fab 5. California Grill is the specialty dining location that has breathtaking views of Magic Kingdom® Park. Both Contempo Café and Contemporary Grounds are counter service locations. Disney’s Contemporary Resort also offers numerous lounges or bars, shopping options, as well as an arcade.

The area behind the resort is lined in pavers, similar to the entrance of Magic Kingdom® Park. The view behind from the rear of the resort is spectacular and so relaxing! There is a marina which is open daily. Here guests can rent boats, book a cruise or fishing excursion or rent a Cabana.
Behind the marina is an outdoor play area. An outdoor pool table, as well as foosball and table tennis/ping pong, can be found here. There are plenty of covered tables and chairs around this area as well. Guests can grab a drink or snack at the Sand Bar, relax, and enjoy the views.
Like most of the Deluxe Resorts, Disney’s Contemporary Resort has a beach area. This is also another perfect place to lay about in one of the many beach chairs and take in the view. Beach volleyball is set up in this area as well as a handful of cabanas.
There are two pool areas located in close proximity to each other. The quiet pool, which is located next to the marina, is circular in shape and only 3 to 5 feet deep. There are a couple of cabanas located here, as well as covered tables with chairs and numerous beach chairs. The main pool includes fountains as well as a water slide. Like the quiet pool, there are multiple beach chairs as well as a couple of cabanas. For the littlest ones, Disney’s Contemporary Resort also offers a quaint little splash pad!
As if there weren’t enough areas already for Guests to sit about, there is also an area complete with chairs around a tree. This area may actually be my favorite!
