All about Disney Castaway Cay

by Mar 20, 2019

Disney Castaway Cay is Disney’s private island in the Bahamas which is an exclusive port for Disney Cruise Line ships! There is so much to see and do that you definitely won’t be bored and you’ll want to come back again and again. Let’s jump right in and show you all there is on this beautiful island!

One of my favorite included items on the island is the BBQ style lunch that is served every day between 11:30 AM and 2:00 PM. There are three different locations across the island so that you don’t have to travel too far to get to lunch! The three locations are Cookies BBQ, Cookies Too BBQ, and the Serenity Bay BBQ (only available for ages 18+.) Just like on the ship there is also soft serve ice cream stations at each of these locations. Nothing like an ice cream cone or two to cool you off on a warm Bahamian beach day!

Castaway Cay – Characters

There are also plenty of character meet and greets available for children, or children at heart like me! They meet at a few different spots including the Post Office and Mount Rustmore! The characters are usually wearing their island best, so make sure to check your Personal Navigator or Disney Cruise Line app for exact times and locations.

Castaway Cay – Pelican Plunge

If it’s a hot day and all you want to do is get in the water, I have the perfect spot for you! You need to head to Pelican Plunge for some water sliding fun! Pelican Plunge is located on the family beach and you can ride the tram right from the ship to the second stop or take a nice leisurely walk. Pelican Plunge is a giant floating platform that has two different waterslides, plus other fun water cannons and a giant water bucket that dumps every few minutes! Keep in mind that you must be a strong swimmer to do these water slides as the water is fairly deep at the bottom.

A few other included items to mention are dance parties, whale dig site, sports areas, Scuttle’s Cove kids club, and many other activities throughout the day. It’s best to keep your Personal Navigator or Disney Cruise Line app with you to check on all the activities happening that day.

Castaway Cay – 5K

Another one of my favorite island activities is the Castaway Cay 5k. Whether you are an avid runner or just like walking a few miles to get the bling, this 5k is for all levels. The 5k runners/walkers are let off the ship first so that they can get to the start line without too many people. The 5k starts down by Pelican Plunge, and goes out to the landing strip, loops around the bike path, out to the adult beach turnaround, and repeats before heading back to Pelican Plunge. Just be aware that in the summer, this 5k can be extremely hot, but Disney makes sure to have multiple water stations to keep you well hydrated! Guests 10 and older can sign up for the 5k onboard the ship at Guest Services. If you have younger children that are not participating, you can drop them off at Scuttle’s Cove before the race.

Castaway Cay – Activites

If you are more into action and adventure, then don’t worry because there is plenty for you to do too! There are many port adventures available at an additional cost that you can book online ahead of time. Castaway Cay has a beautiful snorkeling lagoon that you can rent equipment for and try to go find some hidden treasures under the sea! There are also bicycle rentals, aquatrikes, kayaks, and banana boat rides! If you are even more adventurous, you can go parasailing or on a water ski ride! My personal favorite port adventure though is Castaway Ray’s Stingray Adventure! During this hour-long adventure, you get to pet and feed stingrays while your guide teaches you all about these fascinating creatures. Once you finish the feeding, you can snorkel with the stingrays too! I highly recommend this port adventure if you like to get up close and personal with sea life!

Castaway Cay – Beach

The most popular thing to do on Disney Castaway Cay though? Having a relaxing beach day with your family and friends! There are plenty of loungers to relax and unwind on the pristine beach and crystal clear water of Castaway Cay. For the 18-and-over crowd, head on over to Serenity Bay which is the adult only beach accessible by tram at Pelican Point. You can have drinks delivered right to your lounger! If I’m being completely honest, this is my favorite way to spend the day on this incredible island! Private cabanas are also available, but these must be reserved ahead of time, and are quite popular so availability is very limited.

As you can see there is plenty to see in do on this beautiful island! I can’t wait until my next visit to soak up the sun in my favorite place in the world!
