Ireland and Scotland Vacations

You’ve decided you want to visit the UK – now where to start? At Key to the World Travel®, one important part of our complimentary vacation planning services is building a custom UK travel itinerary.

Here’s what that can look like to help give you some inspiration!

Start Your UK Travel Itinerary with 2-3 Days in London, England

Westminster Abbey, a popular stop on UK travel itineraries

London is a common starting point for UK travel itineraries as most travelers fly into Heathrow Airport. Consider spending two to three days exploring the city and getting accustomed to the time difference.

These are some great daytime activities – depending on your length of stay, we definitely recommend enjoying at least a few of them!

Visit Buckingham Palace – Start your day with a visit to Buckingham Palace and witness the Changing of the Guard ceremony. Arrive early to secure a good view.

Westminster Abbey – Explore Westminster Abbey, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and marvel at its stunning architecture and history.

Explore Hyde Park – Take a leisurely morning stroll or rent a paddleboat on the serene Serpentine Lake in Hyde Park. It’s a perfect place to enjoy some fresh air.

Go Museum Hopping – Many museums in London open sometime mid-morning. Consider starting your day with a visit to the British Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum, or the Natural History Museum to beat the crowds.

Grab Breakfast at Borough Market – Head to Borough Market for a delicious breakfast. You’ll find a variety of food stalls offering everything from artisanal pastries to international cuisine.

What's Your Travel Style?

In the evening, enjoy a leisurely evening walk along the Thames and treat yourself to traditional British dishes at a nearby pub.

You could easily spend a week or two exploring London alone. But, even if days are limited, we can help you maximize the vacation time you have!

Spend 2-3 Days in Oxford and the Cotswolds

Aerial view of the Oxford, England - a beautiful stop along a UK travel itinerary

Oxford is a small city, but it’s packed with things to see and do. Even if you want to skip a walking tour, we recommend spending an hour or two checking out the beautiful old universities.

Visit the University of Oxford Botanic Garden, one of the oldest in the world, to see beautifully landscaped gardens and a diverse collection of plants and flowers.

Take a guided tour of the Bodleian Library. Explore the stunning interior, including the famous Divinity School and Duke Humfrey’s Library.

Harry Potter fans can also snap photos of some famous filming locations around the city.

When you’ve explored Oxford, hop on a train and take a short ride to the Cotswolds. It’s an incredibly picturesque area with charming villages and beautiful countryside views.

Spend 2-4 Days of Your UK Travel Itinerary Exploring Scotland

Cathedral in Edinburgh Scotland

Catch a train or a quick flight to Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital. The city is fun and modern while retaining its rich, historic charm.

Perched high on Castle Rock, Edinburgh Castle dominates the city’s skyline and is an absolute must-visit. Stretching from the castle down to the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the Royal Mile is Edinburgh’s most famous street. You can walk along cobblestone streets and charming alleyways with shops, traditional pubs, and the occasional street performance.

To experience Edinburgh’s natural beauty, hike up Arthur’s Seat, an extinct volcano within Holyrood Park. This climb offers rewarding panoramic views of the city and its surroundings.

It’s a great place for a morning hike or a relaxed afternoon picnic. The contrasting views of the cityscape and the lush green landscape make it a must-visit for nature enthusiasts.

End your Scottish journey with a visit to the ruggedly beautiful Isle of Skye. This remote island offers dramatic landscapes, including the famous Fairy Pools, Old Man of Storr, and Quiraing. Explore charming fishing villages, savor fresh seafood, and take in breathtaking sunsets over the Scottish Highlands.

Spend 3-4 Days Visiting Ireland

Visitin Connemara National Park in Ireland during a UK travel itinerary
Due to the UK’s convenient roads, train system, and relatively short flights, it’s entirely possible to visit another country like Ireland if you have the time!

Start your exploration at Trinity College, home to the famous Book of Kells. Also plan to spend half a day or so taking an Ireland castle tour. We recommend touring at least one – no UK travel itinerary is complete without it! Belfast Castle and Dublin Castle are good options since they’re close to those cities.

Speaking of Belfast and Dublin, they’re only a couple of hours away from each other by car or train, so you can easily visit both in the same trip!

In Dublin, you can experience the art of brewing at the Guinness Storehouse and enjoy a pint while taking in panoramic views of the city at the Gravity Bar.

If you’re more interested in activities like sightseeing and hiking through Ireland’s beautiful landscape, you may want to focus more on the western coast, where you’ll find the Cliffs of Moher, Ring of Kerry, and Connemara National Park. The colorful port town of Galway is located in the west as well.

While it’s doable to explore both the eastern and western coasts in a few days, you may end up spending more time on transportation than you spend actually enjoying activities. We’d recommend sticking to one area if you’re visiting for less than a week.

Other Ways to Enjoy a UK Travel Itinerary

Looking for other stress-free ways to experience the area? If you’re interested in seeing multiple countries/cities and want to really make the most of your time, we have a couple of suggestions!

Visiting the UK on a Cruise

Cruising is one of the most hassle-free ways to experience an exciting UK travel itinerary. You can get settled in once and let the ship transport you to various destinations without the need for constant packing and unpacking.

Transportation is also a breeze, as many cruises provide shuttle services to and from popular attractions nearby. You won’t have to worry about purchasing multiple airline tickets, figuring out the local train systems, or stressing over where to stay.

Multiple cruise lines – including Royal Caribbean®, Celebrity Cruises®, Viking Cruises®, and HX Expeditions if you’re feeling adventurous – offer British Isles itineraries that vary in length from a few days to over two weeks.

Adventures by Disney® Vacation Packages

Adventures by Disney® offers a fantastic way to explore the world, blending Disney’s magic with the excitement of travel. You’ll get adventure, culture, and unforgettable moments, all wrapped in Disney’s top-notch service and storytelling.

The British Isles itinerary covers some of the top highlights we mentioned above, including Dublin, London, and Edinburgh. You’ll also get to see the Giant’s Causeway, a remarkable natural formation and UNESCO World Heritage Site.

If you’d like to focus on a single country, you can choose Ireland and Scotland trips that include tons of activities, privately guided tours, and more.

You can also book an Escape if you don’t have quite as much time. These are shorter (typically 3-day, 2-night) stays dedicated to exploring London and other locations all over the world. Learn more about Adventure by Disney® vacations here!
