Disney Gift Cards are a convenient way to help pay for your upcoming Disney vacation. Whether you use them to budget your vacation from beginning to end, or if you just want to use them for purchases over the course of your vacation, Disney Gift Cards allow you to set aside money just for your Walt Disney World®, Disneyland®, or Disney Cruise Line vacation. Below are 6 helpful tips for using Disney Gift Cards to pay for or to use during your next Disney vacation!

Disney Gift Cards

Disney Gift Cards can be used to pay for your Walt Disney World®, Disneyland®, or Disney Cruise Line vacation.

If you would like to use a Disney Gift Card as a form of payment, please let your Key to the World Travel® agent know. It is helpful to go ahead and create a free account at www.disneygiftcard.com. We will discuss this more in great detail later (including the wonderful benefits to having one), but in short, you can combine multiple Disney Gift Card balances onto a smaller amount of cards (ex. One $50 gift card as opposed to five $10 dollar gift cards). By creating your Disney Gift Card account, you will make the payment process easier for both you and your Key to the World Travel® agent.

Disney Gift Cards can also be used as a form of payment during your vacation.

Walt Disney World®: If you are staying at a Walt Disney World® Resort hotel, you can add a credit or debit card to your room account either online as part of your online check-in, or at the concierge or front desk of your hotel. Disney Gift Cards CANNOT be added to an account; however, they can be used to pay down the account. You can do this in multiple trips, or you can do it all in one trip. Please remember that your charging limits will vary depending on the type of resort you are staying at (value, moderate, or deluxe), and your card will automatically be charged if you get close to your spending charge limit, or during the last night of your stay (whichever comes first). If you want to use your MagicBand to charge to your room, but you would like to pay off your room balance with a Disney Gift Card, it is important to do so before either of these events happen.

The same logic applies with Disneyland® onsite guests. Guests staying at any one of three Disney hotels at the Disneyland® Resort have the ability to charge to their room account with their Key to the World Card, and they will also need to pay their balance with a Disney Gift Card before reaching the charge limit for their resort, or before the last night of their stay.

Disney Cruise Line guests will charge all of their onboard (and Disney’s Castaway Cay) purchases to their stateroom, and then pay off their balance before the last night of their voyage with a Disney Gift Card if they so choose.

Guests at the Disneyland® Resort or the Walt Disney World® resort may use their Disney Gift Cards to make their purchases if they do not or can’t charge to their room account, but it is important to remember that not all locations in either resort accept Disney Gift Card as a form of payment. For example, guests wanting to purchase a sundae at the Ghirardelli® Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop in Disney California Adventure park will not be able to use a Disney Gift Card to pay for their purchase.

Disney Gift Cards

You can save for your Walt Disney World®, Disneyland®, or Disney Cruise Line vacation with Disney Gift Cards.

Many of my clients have expressed to me that they want a way to save money in anticipation for their Disney vacation. One way of doing so is to purchase Disney Gift Cards periodically, save them in your disneygiftcard.com account, and then putting them in a safe place until the start of your vacation. This allows you to know that you have money set aside for your vacation, and this is helpful for planning your budget. As I mentioned before, it is extremely helpful to go ahead and put those gift cards on your disneygiftcard.com account as part of your budgeting process.

What if I need to be refunded all or part of my Disney vacation?

Well, in the unfortunate event that you need to either cancel or reschedule your Disney vacation, and depending on whether or not you qualify for a full or partial refund (you will want to speak with your Key to the World Travel® agent for more information regarding trip insurance and cancellation policies), your refund will be processed back to the original form of payment. So, if you paid with a Disney Gift Card, then you will be refunded back to the original Disney Gift Card you used to make your payment. This is why it is important to keep any Disney Gift Cards you used to pay for your vacation with just in case you need to receive a refund.

What if I don’t have the original Disney Gift Cards I used to make my payments?

Remember that handy disneygiftcard.com account I mentioned earlier (and you created)? Since you loaded your cards on this account (and probably combined balances), you will now be able to put a new card on that account, and simply transfer your refunded balance onto the new Disney Gift Card. This is just another reason why creating a free disneygiftcard.com account is so important if you plan to pay for your Disney vacation with Disney Gift Cards. If for some reason you didn’t or weren’t able to put your gift cards on your disneygiftcard.com account, then it is SOMETIMES possible to request a new gift card be mailed to you with the refunded balance. This is not guaranteed, and it is a request that will have to be filed with the travel provider (Walt Disney World®, Disneyland®, or Disney Cruise Line). It is an all-around better idea to go ahead and create that free account, and put your gift cards on that account just in the event that you need to be issued a refund and you misplaced the original gift cards.

Disney Gift Cards

What if I am paying for my purchases at the Disneyland® Resort or the Walt Disney World® Resort, and I lose my Disney Gift Card?

First of all, go ahead and take a picture of the back of your gift card where you can visibly see the card number and the pin number. You should have already created your free disneygiftcard.com account, and if you put your gift card on that account, you can simply transfer the balance to a new gift card. When I use Disney Gift Cards at the Disneyland® Resort, I always carry at least two Disney Gift Cards with me. If I lose one, and I have done that in the past, I can simply log into my account and transfer the existing balance over to the other card I brought with me (usually an empty card without a balance). This has been a wonderful vacation-saver for me, and I can’t stress enough the importance utilizing your free disneygiftcard.com account. Also, remember that photo you took of the back of your gift card? If you hadn’t already loaded that card onto your disneygiftcard.com account, you can go ahead and use the information in that picture to do so in the event you do lose your gift card.

Whether you are using Disney Gift Cards as a way to save for your vacation, or if you use them to pay for your vacation, it is extremely beneficial to you (and your Key to the World Travel® agent) to utilize some of the very simple tips mentioned in this post. Just by using a free disneygiftcard.com account, you can save you and your family some trouble in the event that your trip doesn’t go as planned. These are tips that have saved my own personal vacations, and I know they will be very helpful in keeping yours on track.
