A Hauntingly Good Time at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party 2017

by Oct 14, 2017

The leaves are starting to turn and everything pumpkin flavored  is starting to appear – that  means Fall is here, and with it the start of Mickey’s NotSoScary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom® Park. On select nights starting in August until Halloween, Magic Kingdom® Park turns into a Halloween paradise for all ages.

Mickey’s NotSoScary Halloween Party is a ticketed event with a limited capacity that gives guests a chance to see Halloween-themed shows, trick-or-treat, and meet some of those rare Disney characters. Special merchandise and themed snacks are available during the party as well. PhotoPass users can take advantage of special Magic Shots around the park. A new feature to this year’s party is the ability to make Advanced Dining Reservations for times during the party at Magic Kingdom® restaurants such as Be Our Guest and Cinderella’s Royal Table. The party runs from 7pm – 12 midnight, featuring the following:

Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular  The Sanderson Sisters from Hocus Pocus perform a stage show with some of the iconic Disney Villains. The show usually runs three times a night at each party. This takes place in front of Cinderella Castle. Definitely a must see!

Mickey’s Boo-to-You Halloween Parade  This parade goes off twice a night at the party. Mickey and friends parade from Frontierland® to Main Street, U.S.A.® dressed in their Halloween Costumes. The Headless Horseman rides down the parade route signaling the start of the festivities. The Haunted Mansion ghosts have a special float as well as favorites such as Wreck It Ralph, Capt. Jack Sparrow, and Clarabelle the Cow. The parade is scheduled at 9:15PM and 11:15PM.

TIP: If you want to see the Headless Horseman ride, make sure you have a spot close to Cinderella Castle or in Frontierland®, as he does not ride down Main Street, U.S.A

Happy HalloWishes Fireworks  This is a Halloween-themed fireworks show over Cinderella Castle with some new takes on familiar Disney Villain songs such as Poor Unfortunate Souls, This is Halloween, and Be Prepared. This show is only at 10:15 PM. There is a special Dessert Party available with special treats and viewing of Happy HalloWishes at Tomorrowland Terrace. However, this is event is not included in your ticket for Mickey’s NotSoScary Halloween and reservations are required.

Trick-or-Treat Stations  Located throughout Magic Kingdom® Park these stations are located in some of the attractions that are not opened for the party such as The Enchanted Tiki Room and Stitch’s Great Escape!. Head on in and fill your Trick or Treat bag with M&Ms®, Peeps®, and other Mars® products, but take note that there are often lines. There are also special allergy-friendly stations available. The stations are easy to find. On the map they are marked with Mickey Pumpkins that correspond to the giant lighted Mickey Mouse pumpkins you will throughout the park.

Special Merchandise and Treats  One of the popular aspects of the party are the special treats and merchandise. Each area of the park has a special treat available for purchase. Liberty Square has a Jack Skellington Push Pop, Starbucks on Main Street, U.S.A. has a pumpkin cheesecake dome, and there were Haunted Mansion® desserts with the portraits from the stretching room. Special pins, T-shirts, and ornaments are also available at select shops.

Special Meet and Greets  Meet some of those rare characters who only come out at night! Villains, Jack and Sally, and even the Seven Dwarfs come out to meet you. There is also a dance party!

TIP- The map for the party just marks spots where the characters are, but does not specify who is there. You can ask any Cast Member what character is where, they have a special map with the specific character locations.

Here are a few more insider tips to make sure you take advantage of all the party has to offer:

  • Remember this is a special ticketed event. You do not have to be at the Magic Kingdom® Park all day. If you have a ticket, you are able to enter at 4pm and get your wristband, map, and goodie bag. The party starts at 7pm, and Disney Cast Members will check for the party wristbands and if you do not have one will ask you to leave the park.
  • This is a limited-capacity event. Most of the attractions are open throughout the party with minimal wait times. If you’re looking to do the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, this is the time to do it. The only attractions that are closed are Jungle Cruise®, Splash Mountain®, The Enchanted Tiki Room, Stitch’s Great Escape!, Enchanted Tales with Belle, and Mickey’s PhilharMagic®
  • There are special character meet and greets all over the park. Rare characters like Jack Skellington and Sally, The Seven Dwarfs, and Moana are only available to meet during these parties, and therefore are the most popular events at the party. People will come in at 4pm and head right to these spots. Some of these lines can have wait times of 2-3 hours. If you have your heart set on meeting Jack and Sally, go later on in the party when some of the lines dissipate. The other thing is that you may only get to meet one of the signature characters during the party. There are other meet and greets that may not be as crowded, but are great. Meet Pooh and friends dressed in their Halloween costumes, or see talking Mickey Mouse dressed in his Vampire outfit. These lines tend to be shorter.
  • If you want to purchase any of the party-specific merchandise or snacks do it early. They tend to run out because they are party exclusive, and people will take advantage and purchase multiple items. Some of the products are limited to how many you can purchase. If you are in to Sorcerer’s of the Magic Kingdom make sure to get the Halloween card from the firehouse.
  • Have a game plan. The first Hocus Pocus show is at 8:15. It is usually the most crowded of the evening. Try to get a good spot because right after that everybody is getting ready for the Boo-To-You Parade and Happy HalloWishes. The main hub at this point is very congested and the rest of the park is pretty much empty. Take advantage and check out the parade and Hocus Pocus later on in the night. It is pretty hard to see everything so use your time wisely. And always remember that all shows and activities are subject to cancellation due to weather.
  • Dress up!  One of the fun things about attending Mickey’s NotSoScary Halloween Party is putting on a costume, and seeing what others are wearing! Need some ideas on what to wear…Check out this post When selecting your outfit, please keep the following guidelines in mind:
